About Dr. Shifflett
Dr. Grant D. Shifflett is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Shifflett specializes in the application of minimally invasive and microsurgical techniques to the entire spectrum of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal conditions, from the simple to the most complex. Whether treating a patient with chronic pain or an acute injury, his ultimate goal is to restore function and quality of life with minimal tissue disruption.
After graduating with High Honors from the University of Virginia with a degree in Neuroscience, Dr. Shifflett attended medical school at the University of Southern California, where he graduated with Highest Distinction and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Shifflett then began his residency training at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, which has been consistently ranked the #1 orthopedic hospital in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report.
During his time at HSS, Dr. Shifflett completed a traveling fellowship in Japan, where he studied complex cervical and reconstructive spine surgery under the tutelage of some of the world’s top cervical and lumbar spine surgeons. He then went on to finish a spine fellowship at Rush University in Chicago, home to one of the most renowned spine programs in the country and a leader in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery.
Dr. Shifflett has numerous publications on minimally invasive and reconstructive spine surgery and has authored two chapters in the textbook “Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.” He has received multiple grants to perform large-scale clinical trials and his research has been presented throughout the United States and internationally in six different countries. Dr. Shifflett is an avid golfer and sports enthusiast and has a keen interest in return to sport.
Dr Shifflett is a participating provider with Medicare and accepts most common health insurance plans.
