About Dr. Bulczynski

An orthopedic surgeon with specific interest in sports injuries of the shoulder and knee, Andrew Bulczynski, M.D. joined LA Spine and Ortho Institute in 2009. He was immediately drawn to the center’s customized patient experience, multi-disciplinary approach and focus on minimally invasive surgeries—approaches he had already personally embraced. Since then, his patient roster has grown to encompass professional and amateur athletes alike.

Embracing a highly individualized approach, Dr. Bulczynski views each one of his patients as a partner in their own care. He prides himself in thoroughly educating patients about their conditions and actively involving them in their unique treatment choices. From his perspective, this complete understanding is vital to treatment success.

Understanding goes both ways. Dr. Bulczynski is no stranger to the physical demands of an athlete. An avid skier and cyclist who has completed six marathons, he looks to his personal experience as an advantage in relating to athlete’s injuries, as well as recognizing the impact they have on function, comfort and performance.

Committed to bringing his patients back to a pain-free, optimal level of function, Dr. Bulczynski takes a conservative approach to treatment, incorporating modalities such as medication and injections. He will also refer patients to physical therapy, chiropractic treatment and/or acupuncture to repair tissues and structures whenever possible. If surgery is required, Dr. Bulczynski prefers minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques.

Prior to joining LA Spine and Ortho Institute, he was an orthopedic surgeon for the Ventura County Medical Center, where he treated patients with a wide array of orthopedic problems including trauma, infection, arthritis, tumor and sports injuries.

Dr. Bulczynski received his medical degree from Northwestern University in 1999 and completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center. To further his knowledge and skills in arthroscopic surgical techniques, he pursued his sports medicine fellowship training at Lake Tahoe Orthopaedic Institute.

During his orthopedic residency, Dr. Bulczynski conducted and presented research on the stability of the shoulder joint, one of his areas of special interest. A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and member of the California Orthopaedic Association, he continually seeks and employs advanced methods to the treatment of disorders of the shoulder.
